Lotek Gauge Pod

Rating

Product Rating: 6 / 10

Excellent colour match, good price, however it did not fit as well as I'd hoped.

Difficulty of install: 3 / 10

If you can install your gauges, you can do this mod.

Background Info

A few years ago there was a group purchase on the GT4 List, for a triple gauge pod to replace the A-pillar for the 88-93 Celica's.  I was pleased that a company was willing to produce a custom product for us, which is very rare.  This company is named Lo-tek, and can be found at www.gaugepods.com .

Installation

Here is a picture of what you first receive in the mail:

I was quite pleased to find how well the pod matched the colour of my blue leather interior.  I don't think it gets much better than that!

This is the pod next to the OEM A-pillar.  I chose to mount the pods to the OEM pillar, because of the poor fit that the Lotek peice had.  Holes must be drilled in the OEM pillar in order to send wires through to the gauges.  Note, I did not cut that ugly third hole there!  It is hidden none the less, but I definitely prefer the clean cuts and all it took was a big drill bit!

Here is a picture of the area that I had to modify in order to make it fit properly.  The Lotek pod comes with the angle already molded, however the angles and measurements are completely wrong.  Using heat to bend it did not work because it returned to its original form within minutes.  I decided to simply cut off the end of the Lotek part and simply bolt it onto the OEM unit.  Much easier and it will make for a nice clean install.  Too bad it didn't fit off the shelf, but it is a quick fix and works well regardless.

Here you can see the pod fits the OEM pillar very well everywhere else.

And lastly, here is a test fit before I've installed my final gauge to complete the pods.  I will have mounted boost, exhaust gas temperature, and an electronic fuel pressure gauge.  Gauges can be critical if you would like to know what is going on with your engine!  You can see the gauges very well on the A-pillar, and there is very little, if any obstruction to your view of the road.
