The Event
This event was definitely one of the better ones that I have attended. Even though it was fairly cold out, there was a good number of cars that showed up. What really impressed me was the types of cars that came. Typically at an event like this there are usually more "show" than "go" cars...not the case here. Since this was a V8less sponsored event, there were only 4 and 6 cylinder cars competing. I would guess that the majority of them were turbocharged and daily drivers. Also, there was a very good turnout from the right hand drive car people. Several cool cars such as Nissan Silvia's and Skyline's, an MK3 Toyota Supra GT Twin Turbo, a Toyota Soarer, and more. In Canada, once a car is 15 years old, importing it from Japan is legal to be insured and registered for normal street use. Needless to say, there were lots of cool cars. I was impressed.
We entered 3 cars into the team event, myself included. Mostly for fun since we didn't expect to win this one. I ran extremely well on the track, with several 13 second passes. My best of the day was a 13.627 @ 98.79mph. My best trap speed of the day was 101.03mph. That was the best my car has done to date. I was quite happy considering I likely won't go to the track again until next year.
I would definitely go to this event again. Here is a list of the 'top 24' cars that were to compete in the eliminations rounds. I did not go on to do this since I wanted to make the return trip to Calgary (3 hours) before it got too late. I'm pretty happy that I even made the list. Lots of very quick cars.
